PWWA Bids to Host IWA Biennial Event in 2019

The Philippine Water Works Association (PWWA) has submitted its Statement of Interest to host the 2019 International Water Association Water and Development Congress and Exhibition to Mr. Keith Robertson, IWA Director for Innovation and Learning. In the Statement of Interest, PWWA President Engr. Eulogio F. Agatep ll said that PWWA is both capable and qualified to host the event based on the criteria set by the IWA. PWWA has successfully hosted, organized and conducted international events such as the IWA World Water Congress in Manila and Cebu in 1994 and 2004, respectively. It also hosted the IWA Global Water Safety Conference and Exhibition held in Puerto Princesa City, from 24-28 April 2016. For the 2019 IWA biennial event, PWWA intends to organize a special committee and partner with Manila Water and Maynilad to jointly handle the organizational aspect of the event.

Agatep cited the strong support from local and foreigndelegates which PWWA has generated in its past events. Previous international events have generated between 500 to 700 delegates. Aside from its track record in hosting and organizing international events, the PWWA president also informed Robertson of the available venues in the country which had been the site of major international events. These venues include the SMX Convention Center and the Resorts World

Manila, both world-class and very accessible to transport hubs, hotels, restaurants and health care facilities. The ease and facility of bonafide delegates to the WDCE to enter the country was also explained by Agatep, aside from the relatively low cost of attending PWWA-organized international events in the country.

In the Statement of Interest, water and water-relatedtechnical facilities within Metro Manila which may be visited were also enumerated to include the water and wastewater treatment plants of the Manila Water and Maynilad located in the adjacent Makati, Taguig, Paranaque and Las Pinas areas, the Balara Filtration Plant and the La Mesa Dam, both in Quezon City area, and the Manila Flood Control System in Manila. The Water and Development Congress & Exhibition

2017 with the theme Sustainable Solutions for Emerging Economies will be held from 13 – 16 November 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
